Cluedo Chronicles problem

Hi all,

I've recently got back into gaming after a break and I've been re-running some of the oldies.

The problem I've got with cluedo chronicles- fatal illusion is the combination lock, I've got the 3 numbers but I just can't get the door to open, I've tried umpteen times using the UK and US version of dates but the door refuses to unlock, is this a known problem as I know there were a few bugs in this game but I've downloaded the patch.

I mastered the lock combination after trying quite a lot, I must say. My problem now is that I have interviewed everybody and should be looking for the captain but there is nowhere to go. The upper room lock is closed with "no hint needed". I considered jumping off the boat but it does not work either. I must have missed something but for the life of me I cannot think what.
HELP!
